Reminder - Courthouse West Planning Commission Hearing Tonight

Thank you for your continued interest in the Courthouse West project and for those who attended the September 1st County-led Virtual Open House meeting regarding the Special General Land Use Plan (GLUP) Study. We wanted to send a reminder about this evening’s Planning Commission meeting which can be attended in person, online or via telephone. The meeting will commence at 7:00 PM.

This will be the 10th County-led public meeting or online engagement on the Special GLUP Study. County Staff will share information about the Study and its recommendations and will be available to answer questions. Additional information about the meeting and how to join via computer or by phone are posted below.

ARLINGTON COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION AGENDA

In advance of Arlington County Board meetings on September 17 & 20, 2022 the following items will be heard by the Planning Commission on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 7:00 PM. This is a hybrid public meeting to be held at the Bozman Government Center, 2100 Clarendon Blvd, Room 307, County Board Room.

• Consideration of the following action about the Courthouse West Special General Land Use Plan Study: adoption of the Courthouse West Special General Land Use Plan Study Document, with planning guidance for the block bounded by Wilson Boulevard, North Cleveland Street, Clarendon Boulevard, and North Danville Street, and with guidance for considering a maximum building height of up to 16 stories, the maximum building height for the C-O-2.5, Mixed Use District.

• Adoption of the Courthouse West Special General Land Use Plan Study Document.

• A GLUP amendment from “Service Commercial” to “Medium” Office-Apartment-Hotel for the area located on the block bounded by Wilson Boulevard, North Cleveland Street, Clarendon Boulevard, and North Danville Street.

How to View and Participate

The Planning Commission Hearings are hybrid meetings where members of the public may attend in-person or via electronic communications using Microsoft Teams.

Commission members, staff, and applicants will conduct the hearings in a hybrid environment at the Bozman Government Center, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Room 307, County Board Room.

County staff, applicants, and public testimony will be hosted by teleconference/videoconference via Microsoft Teams. Participants will receive a confirmation email with further instructions once a speaker slip/request has been submitted.

• Commission members, staff, and public testimony will also be hosted by teleconference/videoconference via Microsoft Teams. Participants will receive an email with further instructions.

• The public may view a live broadcast of this meeting with closed captioning on Comcast Xfinity channels 25 and 1085; Verizon FiOS channels 39 and 40.

• The meeting can be viewed online with closed captioning at arlingtonva.us or on or on YouTube.

• A recording of the meeting will be posted to the County website within two business days after the meeting.

• Sign up online to speak on the day of the virtual public hearings by 5 PM on the day of the hearing.

  • In-person registration will be available BEFORE the onset of the meeting.

  • Speaker Slips/Request to speak will NOT be accepted nor honored after the onset or duration of the meeting.

  • Registered speakers will receive an email confirmation with further instructions.

  • Speakers will join the meeting via Microsoft Teams (accessible through a web browser or the free app), or, via a phone line to provide their comments.

• Submit written comments online to the Planning Commission. Comments received by 2:00 PM on the day of the hearing will be provided to the Commission in advance of the public hearing by the Planning Commission Clerk.
