The Braddock West team is currently finalizing development design and coordinating permits with the City of Alexandria.

  • Demolition Notification - 3/2

    The Braddock West Team would like to share an important notification regarding the demolition of the ten (10) residential properties located on the Braddock West site. Demolition services have been scheduled to start TOMORROW, March 3, 2023, barring inclement weather. Demolition services will involve the removal of the ten (10) existing residential properties and all trees located on the site. The final product of the demolition will be a cleared and flat-graded site.

    We are excited to be able to begin the removal of these properties and start the next chapter of the future West Street development.   • Construction Update - Wythe Street

    The Braddock West Team is excited to share an update regarding the progression of construction along Wythe Street. Backfill of the sanitary sewer along the 1200 Block of Wythe Street is scheduled to complete at the end of the week (Week of February 12, 2023). The conclusion of this work will allow for the re-opening the 1200 Block of Wythe Street for commuting.

    The next phase of construction will begin on February 21, 2023 along the 1300 Block of Wythe Street. This construction will require that this portion of Wythe Street be closed 24/7 to ensure safe and efficient construction operations. We kindly ask that all vehicles belonging to residents located adjacent the 1300 Block of Wythe Street be moved from the road, as parking will not be permitted during this work.   • Construction Notification - 2/11/2023

    ATTENTION

    Construction operations along Wythe Street will occur Saturday, February 11, 2023 beginning at 9:30AM. We are working to complete construction and have the roadway open for the George Washington Parade on February 20th, 2023.

  • Braddock West Site Security Notification - 11/17

    The Braddock West team is aware of the unauthorized trespassing that has been occurring on the Braddock West site and is actively taking action to deter future trespassing attempts.

    We are coordinating with our general contractor to secure all first-level entry points on each of the properties located on the site. The materials are scheduled to be installed on Friday. We have also ordered a perimeter security fence with corresponding ‘No Trespassing Signage’ that will be installed as soon as delivered.

  • Construction Start Notice - 11/15

    The Braddock West team is excited to share a project update with the community. After months of design and permit coordination, we are officially breaking-ground on off-site utility construction at the future Braddock West development. Off-site construction will begin with the installation of a new sanitary sewer line along Wythe Street from the intersection of N. Fayette and Wythe Street to the intersection of N. Payne and Wythe Street. The duration for this segment of construction is approximately three (3) months and will require Wythe Street to remain closed 24/7 to ensure safe and efficient construction. Although Wythe Street will be closed, both the N. Fayette and N. Payne intersections will remain operational. In addition to the sanitary sewer construction along Wythe Street, construction that includes relocating overhead utility lines underground will begin on Madison Street. During this time, a portion of the eastbound lane will be closed during construction hours, but transportation in both directions will still be available.   • New FAQ Section

    The Braddock West team would like to thank all community members that attended the pre-construction meeting on August 23rd. We were excited to be able to share information regarding upcoming off-site construction as well as hear from you.

    The purpose of the August meeting was to inform community members surrounding the Braddock West site of construction commencing September 2022 including public utility improvements along Madison, N. West, and Wythe Streets. These utility improvements will require that commuting patterns be altered to allow for efficient and safe construction. For more information regarding upcoming construction efforts and corresponding road closures, please review the August 23, 2022 – Braddock West – Pre-Construction Meeting Presentation located under the document library section. As of now, we are still working towards finalizing the start date of off-site construction and will communicate that information once it is set.

    In addition to distributing construction information, we received many thoughtful questions that are pertinent to all members of the Braddock West community. With that, we have added a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section to the Braddock West website that will serve as a way for us to communicate any questions that we receive, as well as a place for community members to reference. We have updated this section to include all questions that arose during the pre-construction meeting and as construction progresses, we will continue to post questions to this section.

    As always, we greatly appreciate your questions, feedback, and ideas for the Braddock West development. Please continue to check this site for updates on the project as off-site construction will begin in a few short weeks.

  • Pre-Construction Info Session TONIGHT 8/23

    The Braddock West team is excited to share a project update to the community. Following up on our hand-delivered flyers to neighbors directly adjacent to the site, we will be hosting a pre-construction information session this evening (Tuesday August 23rd) at the Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe Street, Alexandria, VA), beginning at 6:30pm.

    Since receiving City Council approval for the development in summer 2021, we have been working with our team of architects and engineers to finalize the construction and permit plans. Phase 1 of the project is scheduled to commence in September 2022 and includes the undergrounding of overhead telecom and electrical lines surrounding the site, as well as the installation of sanitary sewer upgrades along Wythe Street. Completion of the Phase 1 utility upgrades is required for construction vehicles to access the project’s site for the building construction. Phase 2 will begin upon the completion of the offsite infrastructure in 2023, with an estimated project delivery in 2025.

    Thank you for your patience as we work towards transforming this Metro-adjacent site to a mixed-use residential building with an improved pedestrian experience on the block, neighborhood-serving retail and improved infrastructure that will support the neighborhood and Alexandria.

    Thank you to everyone who came out last night to learn more about Braddock West - the only thing better than the nice Spring weather was the great turnout from our neighbors. We were honored to have over 30 Andrew Adkins residents in attendance as well as representatives from City staff and ARHA leadership. We hope everyone enjoyed the event as much as we did and found the discussion helpful. We look forward to continuing our efforts in being a good neighbor and to solidifying open lines of communication throughout the community.

    The Braddock West team would like to extend a special thanks to Councilman Aguirre for coming out to support the community and provide some encouraging opening remarks.

  • Community Meeting with Andrew Adkins Neighbors

    The Braddock West team is excited to hold an information session for all residents of Andrew Adkins Monday, April 5th at 6:00pm to be held at the central playground - all community members and passersby are welcome to attend.

    We hope you'll join us outside for a socially distanced discussion about the Braddock West project and to enjoy some food and refreshments. We kindly ask you to wear a mask and will have masks available for those who need one. Also, precautions will be taken to safely prepare and distribute food.

    Previous Update - We are proud to report Braddock West received approval from Alexandria Planning Commission on December 1, 2020 in a 6-1 vote. The City Council hearing originally scheduled for December 12, 2020 has been postponed while a few remaining issues are addressed.


    Original Post - We are excited to announce that Braddock West is on the docket for the Planning Commission on December 1st and City Council on December 12th.

    We are proud to report that we have continued to make great progress on Braddock West over the last several months and we hope in your review of the staff report, you'll note the great strides we've made to incorporate many of the community concerns brought up throughout the process. The community has been an integral and important part of this process and we are excited to move into the next phase of design approvals and continue this meaningful engagement.
